About this product

We cut kaftans as a standing production line, not as a seasonal side item. They go mainly
to resort, beach and holiday retailers, and the specification table above is drawn from our
own order records rather than from a brochure.

What we actually cut

Two fabric families carry almost all of it. katoen is the larger and the
one most buyers come for — woven cotton in plain, dobby and cotton-linen textures.
Polyester is the second, usually a satin or a cotton-handfeel weave chosen
when a buyer wants sharper print definition or a lower landed cost. Both are declared on our
export documents as single-fibre constructions; the mix shown above is counted from those
records, not estimated.

The construction detail is where kaftans differ from one another, and it is what we are
usually asked to quote on:

• Pom pom and tassel trims — the most frequently repeated finish in
  ons 'n grap orders, at the hem, the sleeve or the neckline.
• Borduurwerk — placement work at the yoke and neckline, on the same
  blocks.
• Print method — digitaal, block and pigment printing are all in the
  shipped record. Digital suits short colourways and photographic artwork; handblok drukwerk
  is the slower, hand-craft route buyers ask for by name.
• Dobby and yarn-dyed grounds — texture woven in rather than printed on.
• Belted and unbelted silhouettes, short and long.

Order size and lead time, stated plainly

Our minimum is 100 pieces per style, and colours may be split within that
minimum — a typical kaftan order runs a little over that across roughly two colourways.
The 90th-percentile figure in the table is there so you can see the top of our normal range,
not just the middle of it.

On timing we publish two numbers rather than one, because only publishing the quoted
figure would be flattering and misleading. The quoted lead time is what we commit to at
order confirmation. The measured figure is what actually happened across recent production orders, en
it is longer — it includes buyer approval cycles, strike-off and fit approvals that sit
on both sides. If your critical path is tight, tell us the delivery date first and we will
tell you honestly whether it is achievable before you place the order.

Working with us

Kaftans are usually developed from a buyer’s sketch or tech pack, or adapted from one of
our existing blocks. Send artwork and a size set and we will come back with a sample. Ons is
a manufacturer working to order, so quoting happens per style against your specification
— any figure given before we have seen the fabric and the print method would be a guess.

Kaftans sit in the same beach and resort programme as our pareos, sarongs, kimono-styl
cover-ups and tunics, and buyers frequently combine them in one shipment.
