What we make

Styles

Our kaftan range runs from long, floor-skimming beach and lounge kaftans to short tunic lengths, kaftan dresses with a defined waist, shirt kaftans with a collar and button placket, and kimono-style kaftans with wide, open sleeves. Plus-size kaftans are developed as their own graded range rather than a stretched standard size. If you are working on a wider collection, see our resortwear manufacturing page.

Fabrics

Most kaftans are made in woven natural fibres chosen for drape and comfort in warm weather:

  • Cotton voile: light, soft and slightly sheer; good for flowing beachwear and layering.
  • Cotton slub: a textured yarn with a casual, handwoven look and more body.
  • Cotton cambric: a fine, closely woven cotton that is smoother and more opaque, suited to crisp shirt kaftans and fine embroidery.
  • Viscose and modal: fluid drape and a soft hand; they take colour and digital print well.
  • Silk and blends: for dressier pieces. Our silk kaftan buying guide explains what to check before ordering.

Certified fabric can be sourced from mills that hold their own certification, on request.

Techniques

Surface work is where a kaftan gets its identity. We produce digital prints for detailed, multi-colour artwork, block prints for hand-stamped, slightly irregular patterns, embroidery on necklines, cuffs and hems, and tassel and pom-pom trims. Each method has its own limits on colour, placement and repeat, covered in our guide to kaftan embellishment, embroidery, tassels and printing.

What to specify so bulk matches the sample

A kaftan looks simple, but its loose shape and light fabrics hide several problems that only appear in bulk. These are the points worth fixing in writing before the sample is approved.

  • Sheerness and lining. Cotton voile and light viscose can turn see-through, especially in white, ivory and pale shades. Decide whether you want a full lining, a half lining to the hip, or a deliberately sheer beach cover-up, and state the lining fabric and colour.
  • Print placement. On kimono-style kaftans the wide sleeves and open front cut the print into several panels. Specify where the motif sits at centre front, whether it must match across the front opening, and how it falls on the sleeve. An engineered placement print needs more fabric and careful cutting than an all-over repeat.
  • Drawstring and tie construction. Say whether the waist tie is a channel with a cord, a sewn-in belt or a loose sash. Give the cord length, the position of the eyelets or openings, and how the ends are finished so they do not fray or pull out.
  • Shrinkage. Loosely woven cottons such as voile and slub can shrink noticeably on the first wash, which changes length and sleeve width. Ask for pre-washed or shrinkage-controlled fabric, and give the wash care you expect your customer to follow, so the finished garment stays close to the approved measurements.
  • Grading a one-size kaftan. A single free size does not simply scale up for plus sizes. Bust, armhole, sleeve opening and length all need their own grade so the garment hangs correctly. Our plus-size kaftan sizing standards set out how to approach this.
  • Tassel and pom-pom attachment. Trims are often the first thing to fail. Specify the stitching method, the number of anchoring points and whether trims are removable for washing, then test pull strength on the sample.

How an order runs

  1. Brief or tech pack: you send your design, references or measurements, or choose from our designs.
  2. Fabric and print development: we source or develop the fabric, then produce print, embroidery or trim strike-offs for your approval.
  3. Sample and fit approval: we make the sample, you check the fit and details, and we revise until it is signed off.
  4. Bulk production: cutting, stitching and finishing follow the approved sample and specification.
  5. Inline and final inspection: garments are checked during production and again before packing against the approved sample.
  6. Packing and export documentation: goods are packed to your labelling and carton requirements, and we prepare the shipping paperwork.

Common questions

Can you make kaftans from my own design?

Yes. We produce private label kaftans from your tech pack or sketches. If you have only an idea or reference images, we can also develop the design with you under our ODM service.

What is your minimum order for kaftans?

Our minimum is from 100–300 pieces per style, per colour. The exact figure depends on the fabric and the surface work involved.

Do you work with new brands?

Yes. We work with new labels as well as established brands. If that is you, our guide on how to start your own resortwear brand is a useful starting point.

Can you combine print and embroidery on one kaftan?

Yes, for example a digital print body with embroidered trim at the neckline. Tell us the effect you want and we will advise on what works on your chosen fabric.

Do you export kaftans internationally?

Yes. We have exported over 4 million pieces worldwide, and we prepare the packing and export documentation for each shipment.
