Import duty in Japan for Indian-made goods
The India–Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has been in force since 1 august 2011. Under the current Japan Customs tariff schedule, the following goods of Indian origin enter Japan duty-free:
- Dresses and fuste for women, knitted or woven.
- Şaluri, eșarfe, stoles and mufflers.
- Bags with an outer surface of textile material, such as cotton and canvas totes.
Without the agreement, the general Japanese rate on most of these clothing lines is roughly 8 la 11 la sută. Japanese consumption tax of 10 percent is still charged at import, on the customs value plus any duty.
To claim the duty-free rate, your importer needs a certificate of origin issued in India for the shipment. The agreement also sets rules of origin for clothing: in general the garment must be cut and sewn in India, and the rules limit the use of imported fabric. We confirm with you, before production, whether a style qualifies, and we prepare the certificate for qualifying shipments. Your customs broker can confirm the rate for each item.
Import duty in South Korea
The India–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has been in force since 1 ianuarie 2010. Whether it lowers the duty on a given item of clothing depends on the tariff line, so ask your customs broker for the current preferential rate on your products. A certificate of origin is needed to claim it, and we supply one for qualifying shipments. Korean value added tax applies at import.
Labelling
- Japan: textile goods must show the names and percentages of the fibres used, and care labels must use the JIS L 0001 simboluri de îngrijire. Eșarfe, shawls and mufflers have needed care labels since April 2017. Send us your label artwork in Japanese and we sew it in, or we print the information to your layout.
- South Korea: fibre content and country of origin are labelled in Korean. Send us your label artwork and we apply it with your brand labels and tags.
What buyers in Japan and Korea usually ask us to plan for
- Calitate constantă: we agree an approved sample and the acceptable range before bulk, and check goods during production and again before packing.
- Small capsule ranges: our minimum is set per style and per colour, so a select shop can order several styles in one print without a large order of any single item.
- Print and colour approval: lab dips and strike-offs are approved before bulk, so colours match across a collection.
- Season timing: spring and summer ranges are usually sampled in the preceding autumn and winter. Give us your in-store date and we will work back from it.

Do you make OEM and private label goods?
Da. We make goods to your design with your labels, swing tags and packing, or develop styles with you from our own designs.
Can you mix scarves, kaftans and bags in one shipment?
Da. The minimum applies per style and per colour, not to the shipment as a whole.
